Our employees are the company.  They form the core of creativity, expertise, knowledge, experience, and the reason to work at Crystallics.

We are recruiting!  We are looking to fill the following three positions:

The Technical Director is an expert in solid state chemistry and has a background in organic and analytical chemistry. The two key components of the position are, firstly, to support the scientific staff at Crystallics with in-depth technical advice on customer projects and, secondly, to drive and champion innovation within the organization. The Technical Director is at the center of scientific knowledge and innovation at Crystallics.

The Technical Director, together with the Principal Scientist, supports the Program Director and the Scientists in their execution of customer projects. Such support includes input into the research approach, analysis and interpretation of findings and generation of ideas to improve the outcome of the studies and, ultimately, provide value to our customers. The goal is to ensure that Crystallics continues to deliver the highest possible scientific insight and quality for its customers.

The Technical Director is the lead for internal innovation with the aim to improve existing services and develop new product offerings. The scope for such innovation is solid state research, preformulation and formulation design, as well as, other services that would complement our current service offering. Key internal stakeholders for such innovation are the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), the Principal Scientist and the Program Director and the task will include working with outside parties such as academic groups and equipment vendors. Some of these efforts should result in publications in peer-reviewed journals.

The Technical Director needs to be a scientific expert in solid state and preformulation and be able to work effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. He/she needs to have scientific curiosity, a passion for quality and the drive to champion and implement new ideas. The Technical Director reports to the CSO.

The Scientists at Crystallics are at the heart of the operation. As a Scientist you are responsible for solid-state projects from start to finish. You will be writing a research proposal addressing the needs of our customers. Once a project is landed you will be the lead responsible person to execute the project. This includes implementing experiments in the laboratory, collecting and interpreting data, decide on follow-up experiments and, finally, write a report for the customer. During the project execution you will provide the customer with regular updates on the progress and results of the study. You will keep track of the agreed timelines and make sure that your projects are executed within the agreed budget. Project progression is discussed internally at regular intervals and you are supported by other scientists including the Program Director (PD), Technical Director (TD) and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). These are your peers and sparing partners for the science in your projects. A Scientist reports directly to the CSO and is on a daily basis is mentored by the PD.

You will need at least a MSc degree in Organic and Analytical Chemistry and experience with solid state chemistry either at a pharmaceutical company or at a contract research organisation.

You will need high quality standards and have a research minded attitude. You will be working in the laboratory carry out the necessary experiments, as well as, in the office capturing the findings and conclusion in the customer report. You must be flexible, communicative and have a true customer focus.

The Technician role is focused on performing laboratory experiments including sample preparations, solid form screens, analytical tests and equipment maintenance.  The Progam Director and the Scientists, who have overall responsibility of customer projects, work with the Technicians and brief them on laboratory experiments required for a project and the conditions and timelines for such work.  The Technicians report back to the owner of the project (Program Director or Scientist) with the results of the experiments performed.  As a research organization we look to recruit staff who have an inquisitive mind and who can analyze the early results of experiments they are performing and recommend a different research approach or conditions if appropriate.

The Technician will be familiar with many of the following research techniques:

  • Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)
  • Dynamic vapor sorption (DVS)
  • Thermogravimetric techniques (TGA)
  • Thermogravimetric analysis coupled with mass spectroscopy (TGMS)
  • High-Performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
  • Liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LCMS)
  • Karl Fischer determinations (KF)
  • X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD)
  • Fourier transform infra red spectroscopy (FTIR)

The Technician will have a Hoger Laboratorium Onderwijs (HLO), Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Master of Science (MSc) with at least 2 years of relevant laboratory experience, preferable in the pharmaceutical industry or other industrial laboratory setting.
